The diet is based on the theory that our blood reacts differently to lectins found in food, according to which group we fall under. Lectins are a type of food protein which are broken down differently according to your blood type as they cause different chemical reactions, and this is down to your genetic inheritance.
What the blood types mean??
Blood type A – cultivators and ate more vegetarian foods.
Blood type B – were nomads, eating the widest range of foods.
Blood type AB – called enigmas, a mix of A and B, requiring meat but in smaller portions.
Blood type O –the oldest blood type, from when people had to hunt for their food, thus the stress on meat in this diet.
Peter J. D'Adamo, the man behind the book, claims that if you don’t eat the right foods that are compatible with your blood type, you can experience various health problems.
Food for blood group A
Those that are blood type A are advised to take on a vegetarian style diet with plenty of fruits, vegetable and seafood. Meat and dairy isn’t advised and should be avoided in terms of weight loss. Foods that will aid the process of losing weight and dieting include vegetable oil, soy foods, pineapple and vegetables. Only light exercise is needed.
Food for blood group B
Those with blood type B should avoid chicken and pork, but otherwise can eat most foods within moderation as they have a tolerant digestive system. Foods that shouldn’t be eaten and will hinder weight loss include wheat, lentils, peanuts and seeds. On the other hand Tea, liver, liquorice, eggs and greens will speed up the weight loss process.
Food for blood group AB
Similar to blood type B, those with type AB can also enjoy a diet that is varied, but again, with moderation as they usually have more of a sensitive digestive tract. Foods to avoid are red meat seeds, corn and kidney and lima beans, where as foods that are definitely on the menu are tofu, seafood, dairy and again pineapple.
Food for blood group O
Most people fall under this category and have blood type O and are advised to have a diet that is rich in protein and low in carbohydrates. Foods that should be avoided include wheat, lentils, corn, kidney beans, cabbage and cauliflower. Foods that will help when it comes to weight loss include kelp, seafood, salt, liver, red meat and spinach. Lots of exercise is recommended.

The diet claims there are other benefits to following the food that is suggested for your blood type apart from losing weight which includes: •Reduce your risk of chronic illness: diabetes, cardiovascular disease •Avoid common viruses and infections •Slow the aging process
Does it work?
Although it is supposed to be one of the best diets out there, since the foods match your blood type, there isn’t any actual scientific research that suggests that this is the best way to eat and lose weight. However, when you watch closely what you eat, you are likely to lose weight as you won’t be eating junk food and most likely adding more vegetables and fruits to your diet.
The best way to ensure you lose weight and remain healthy is to stick to a balance and healthy diet, incorporating all the food groups, not to eat excessively and to exercise on a frequent basis
